MEMBER DESIGN MODULES
The steel member design modules
allows for the rapid checking and optimizing of steel sections. Some of these modules can
be used as post-processors for the frame analysis programs and others use independent
analysis and design procedures.
Two modules, Strut and Com, are used for checking
and optimizing sections under axial or combined axial and bending stresses using elastic
design principles:
Strut (Steel
Member Design for Axial Stress): Automatically reads the output from the last Plane Frame
Analysis, Space Frame Analysis or Space Truss Analysis. Only axial forces are considered
to allow fast checks and designs on trusses, bracing and other pinned members. The user
has full control over design parameters and positioning of lateral supports. (sample)
Com (Steel Member Design for Combined
Stress): Automatically reads the output from the last Plane Frame Analysis, Grillage Analysis, Space Frame Analysis or Single Span
Beam Analysis. The combined effects of axial forces and bi-axial bending moments are
considered to allow detailed checks and designs on frames and beam-column elements. The
user has full control over design parameters and positioning of lateral supports.
Self-contained design modules include:
PlasDes: Linear
elasto-plastic analysis of plane framed structures with or without internal pins. Own
weight, temperature effects, different load cases and load combinations at ultimate and
serviceability limit states can be modelled. This module is also linked to the database of
standard steel sections for easy entering of section properties.(sample)
Continuous error checking is done during the
input phase and helpful hints displayed to solve possible problems. Output is in graphical
or tabular format. The load factor at which the collapse mechanism forms as well as
deflections, reactions and element forces just before collapse are calculated. The program
can also optimise the required section moduli and select suitable sections from the
database. Input data files are interchangeable with program the Plane Frame Analysis
modules, PF.
CrBeam : Analysis and design of
multi-span crane gantry girders with one or two moving cranes. Multiple combinations of
capping beams and main beams, including standard sections from database, plate girders and
box girders can be specified. Output is in graphical or tabular format. Bending moment,
shear force and deflection envelopes are calculated for all possible combinations of
vertical and horizontal loading. General and dynamic design parameters can be edited. The
program can also optimise the required sections select suitable sections from the
database. Detailed drawings can be created in DXF format. (sample)
PG : Analysis and design of plate
girders. Beam segments with constant or varying sections properties can be specified. (sample)
